Panasonic AF-101

The Panasonic AF101 has been used on a few shoots since it’s arrival. I recently shot a TV commercial for Cherry cars on the 101 and was very pleased with the results!

Due to the inability to control f-stop using the Canon lenses I changed to a Nikon mount and now have a few Nikon primes as well as some zooms. The images produced with the Nikon 80-200 f2.8 are truly beautiful. The lens has a lovely bokeh and just looks great!

The internal SD cards record using the AVCHD codec in 1920×1080 at about 35mb/s. The 32Gb card allows 3 hours of shooting. Ingesting this into Final Cut Pro is very simple using the “Log and Transfer” window and is similar to ingesting P2 footage. Make sure you have the AVCHD software loaded on FCP though.

When higher quality recording is required we use either the Sound Devices PIX240 recorder or the Blackmagic Hyperdeck, mounted on the AF101. The PIX will record Proress 422 HQ or DNxHD files.

The short depth of field and the option of using 35mm film lenses on this camera has opened up a whole new world of oppertunities for filmmakers with limited budget. We are very excited about this new camera so please contact me if you need more information.
